I was born in Canada to Scottish parents and subsequently immigrated to Japan where I pursued my dream of rocket-building, only to find out that going to university in another country required one to actually speak the language, and building rockets required higher-order mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, after beating an expeditious retreat from the horrors of academia, I decided to learn the language. After a decade or so of failing upwards, I managed to start a translation company that deals in art, science, and diplomacy, and through that work, I have had the joy of visiting art museums when they’re empty of crowds, the thrill of visiting centuries-old imperial structures most people don’t see, and the nerve-wracking experience of standing within hailing distance of world leaders when they are discussing how not to start a war in Northeast Asia.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have always dreamed of writing, and am happy to finally have summoned up the courage to give it a shot.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I live near the mountains in the western Kanto plain with my wife, two daughters, five guitars, a big charcoal barbecue, and a motorcycle that I’ve only crashed once.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
